Hoffman’s event-winning hammer-throw of 194-9 improved his personal best and broke a 19-year-old school record.
It was the second-longest hammer throw in Great Northwest Athletic Conference history.
Hoffman also took first place in the men’s discus and improved his provisional qualifying mark with a throw of 163-8.
His throw in the discus raised his No.-6 GNAC all-time ranking in the discus throw by three inches.
The Western Front: What was your most embarrassing moment in a track meet?
Hoffman: I don’t think I have an embarrassing moment. I have an embarrassing moment about a friend, though. That friend forgot to put on his pants under his warm-ups, so when he went to throw, he took his warm-ups off and it was just his boxers. So he ran behind a bush, put shorts on, threw and PR’d, set a [Personal record].
WF: What sports did you play in high school?
Hoffman: I just did track and field. Then I swam, went mountain biking, BMX and skateboard[ed] — all that stuff on the side.
WF: You said the hammer team is kind of like a family. Do you have any crazy stories from traveling?
Hoffman: I don’t know if we have anything from traveling. We definitely have get-togethers all the time. One time, we got into this little competition of who could ride my BMX bike down the stairs. I ended up smashing my hand into the railing. It was my house, though.
WF: What is your guilty pleasure?
Hoffman: I love to eat, and I think my guilty pleasure is definitely a jumbo potato burrito from Casa Que Pasa. I’m a sucker for that and Double Fudge Cookie Dough Blizzards. Those are delicious!
